Bosch Dishwasher Repair Simple Steps to Save You Money

Bosch dishwasher repair should usually be a job for the professionals.

But before your expert arrives, you can always see if there’s an easy fix for your dishwasher not draining or not filling with water.

These are relatively common problems which occur with this kind of appliance. Here’s how you fix them:

When your Bosch dishwasher is not draining

A Bosch dishwasher not draining is a fairly standard fault. But, it’s also one that is almost always quick and easy to fix yourself.

he basic troubleshooting steps are, in order:

1) Check the filter

This is usually the problem and should always be the first thing you check. Bits of food and other debris might have blocked the easy-to-spot filter in the bottom of your machine. Clear it out, wash it in the sink and see if your problem persists.

This easy fix could well be worth sticking your hand in that murky water!

2) Check the drain pump:

If removing the filter hasn’t allowed all of the water to drain out of your dishwasher, it’s time to go a little further with your troubleshooting.

You’ll need to bail the water out – or use some sort of wet vacuum cleaner if you have one – so you can take a look at the drain pump in the bottom.

Here’s how:

  1. Make sure your machine is definitely off and unplugged at the power supply.
  2. Remove the drain pump cover – it’s usually just a single screw which secures it on most Bosch dishwashers.
  3. You should now be able to see the drain pump’s blades. Again, check to make sure there’s no debris here. Remove everything you can see, even if it looks to be too small to be causing the problem.
  4. Put everything back where you found it!

3) Check the dishwasher waste pipe

Grease, fat and other compounds which might be able to get through both of the above and then harden can sometimes be found in parts of the mechanism you wouldn’t expect them to be able to reach. Here’s how to make sure this isn’t your issue:

  1. Squeeze the waste pipe along its length to break up any deposits
  2. Boost your dishwasher to its hottest possible level and run a cycle

4) Call in a professional

If none of these seems to be preventing your Bosch dishwasher not draining, it’s time to call in someone with proper training.

It could be that your drain pump needs replacing. It’s not usually that pricey a repair job. But you probably won’t want to do it yourself.

Your dishwasher won’t fill with water

On the other side of the coin, you might find that your Bosch dishwasher won’t fill with water.

Here are a few simple things you can check if this is the issue you’re facing:

  1. Check the power: it sounds obvious, but it’s always worth checking that your machine is properly plugged in or that your power hasn’t been tripped off while you were out.
  2. Check to see if a cycle was interrupted: possibly related to the above, your Bosch dishwasher won’t fill if it “thinks” it’s still mid-cycle. Depending on your model, you can either hold down the start button for more than three seconds to trigger a restart. Or you can use the cancel or reset buttons.
  3. Check the water supply: open the cupboard under your sink and make sure that the water supply is definitely turned to the “on” position and there aren’t any twists in the hose. If you’re going to need to take the water hose off to fix this, remember to switch the water off before you do!
  4. Check the hose filter: if the steps above don’t seem to have helped, it’s time to disconnect your water supply hose and check the hose filter which may be located in the end. These are fitted to many models of machine to protect against sediment from your water supply reaching the device’s inner workings. The downside is that if they do their job too well, they can get gummed up. Clean yours and replace it.
  5. Check your water pressure: the standard easy measure for this is that you should be able to turn on a tap in your house and fill a gallon container in under thirty seconds. It’s a pretty simple test – providing, of course, that you can locate a container of the right size!
  6. Check your water inlet valve: this is a bit more technical than the previous steps, so it’s probably one to leave for last.
    • Ensure your power supply is definitely off and unplugged.
    • Look inside your dishwasher near the front behind the kick panel. You should be able to see the water inlet valve.
    • Remove the kick panel – it should be a matter of a couple of screws.
    • Remove the front door panel – these are inside the dishwasher too.
    • You should now be able to access the water inlet valve.
    • Check that the two wires which connect the valve are tightly in place.
    • Check the valve to see if it has any obvious damage or leaks – if it does, you’ll need to buy the right model and replace it

When do I call in the repairman?

Again, if none of these steps resolves your problem – or if your knowledge of Bosch dishwasher error codes isn’t up to snuff – it’s probably worth your time to call in a professional.
