Whirlpool dishwashers come in a range of freestanding and integrated options. SupremeClean technology is just one of the features that ensure you get a powerful clean. With 30-minute quick washes and sensors that tailor your wash saving you time and money, it’s no wonder that these appliances are so popular.

However, even the greatest technology can have issues. Concerned about what to do when your dishwasher starts experiencing difficulties? Don’t be – look at a range of Whirlpool dishwasher error codes and troubleshooting here…

Whirlpool Dishwasher Troubleshooting

Common Whirlpool dishwasher problems include:

Whirlpool Dishwasher Not Drying

When your dishwasher isn’t drying the dishes, this could be due to several reasons. Firstly, the vent, which lets out the hot air generated during the rinse cycle, may not be opening properly. If this is the case moisture will be left on the tableware.

If your dishwasher has a vent fan motor to dry the dishes at the end of the cycle, a defective motor will also result in the dishes remaining wet. If the fan motor has burned out, or the fan blade won’t turn smoothly manually, it will need to be replaced.

Many dishwashers operate with a heating element that heats up during the drying cycle. If this fails the appliance won’t dry the dishes properly. And a faulty heating element assembly will cause the same issue – the dishes won’t be dry at the cycle end.

Whirlpool Dishwasher Not Starting

There’s a range of factors that may prevent your appliance from starting and these include a control lock set in the on position, which is designed to avoid unintended use, or the dishwasher is in Sleep Mode. You may be able to disable this function by opening and closing the door before turning the control lock off.

If a delayed wash option has been selected this may also prevent the dishwasher from operating. This programme will run the dishwasher during off-peak electrical hours and won’t start until that delay time is reached. You may be able to cancel the delay and resume the start cycle.

Issues with the door lock will also stop the dishwasher from working. This is a safety feature designed to prevent an overflow of incoming water. The problem could be with the door lock, door switch, door latch, or a faulty connection.

Other concerns could be related to the electricity supply. A faulty power socket, blown thermal fuse, or issues with the main control board all need to be safely investigated by a qualified engineer. The touchpad and control panel may also have faults – if the touchpad doesn’t respond when buttons are pressed it may need replacing. Likewise, the control panel may need to be replaced at the same time.

Whirlpool Dishwasher Not Filling

This is typically caused by a defective water valve solenoid or a blocked water valve. The obstruction will stop any water from getting into the appliance. If the valve is faulty it will need replacing.

This can also result from the anti-flood switch getting stuck and not working properly. This device shuts off the water if it detects a problem to prevent the dishwasher from taking in any more water. It works by switching on the drain pump when activated, clearing the dishwasher of water, and disabling the filling circuits if valves. If Whirlpool dishwasher fault finding identifies this component as the culprit it will need replacing.

Whirlpool Dishwasher Leaking

If excess water is coming from the front of the dishwasher it points to door seals that may have become worn or damaged in some way. This results in the door not sealing securely allowing water to escape during the wash cycle. Door seals can be replaced.

If the leak is from under the appliance than this could be coming from the pump seal, the drain or fill hoses, or the solenoid valve. You can try and isolate the leak, but there are many live wires near to these parts, so repairs are best left to a qualified technician.

Whirlpool Integrated Dishwasher Problems

Whirlpool integrated dishwasher troubleshooting covers:

Whirlpool Integrated Washing Machine Has No Power Supply

You can check if the socket is working by plugging in another electrical device like a radio for example. If this also doesn’t work, you’ll know it’s a power socket issue. Look at the fuse in the plug to ensure that it is the recommended 13 amps, and if an extension lead is being used that should be tested as well.

Other electrical concerns can be with the power supply itself, a blown thermal fuse, or faulty wiring. Any electrical problems should be checked out safely by a qualified engineer. These issues are generally repairable, with faulty components being replaced.

Whirlpool Integrated Dishwasher Not Emptying

Occasionally the waste hose will have been installed incorrectly and will need specialist re-installation. Other issues may lie with the waste spigot or a blocked filter. A full waste disposal or an air gap will also prevent water from properly draining out of the appliance.

The hose itself may have become obstructed, kinked, or damaged resulting in the water not being able to escape. Make sure the hose seal is tight to stop any leaks.

The drain valve found on the valve bracket may become stuck, and the drain basket itself can become clogged with food remnants and obstruct the water flow. If you can hear a humming or clicking noise when the dishwasher is running this could indicate that the drain pump or motor may need replacing.

Whirlpool Integrated Dishwasher Lights Flashing or Blinking

Common reasons for this happening could be the water not reaching the operating temperature indicating a problem with the heating element, or the heating element assembly. The drain pump not working properly can also trigger the flashing lights, and the touchpad and control panel may also need looking at.

If the lights are flashing alongside a fault code then consult the manufacturers manual to help to identify the problem.

Whirlpool Dishwasher Error Codes

Whirlpool dishwasher fault codes are designed to help you diagnose the problem, even if you need an appliance repair technician to fix it for you. See a range of codes and their meanings below:

A Whirlpool dishwasher fault codes reset can sometimes resolve the issues listed above. To carry out the reset you need to disconnect the dishwasher from the power supply for one minute. If the appliance is plugged into a socket, you can just take out the plug and then plug it back in after the suggested time.

Alternatively, if the dishwasher is hardwired to the power supply, the circuit breaker will need to be turned off for one minute and then turned back on.
