Samsung is a well-known global brand for white appliances and fridge freezers are just one of the company’s specialties. Although designed and manufactured to last for long periods of time uninterrupted and without problems, it can and sometimes does happen that you experience some common problems with your Samsung fridge freezer. This can be a cause for concern. You might even consider buying a new fridge freezer altogether. But before you spend your hard-earned money, take a look at some of the four most common problems and how to troubleshoot them yourself so that you can save time, hassles and money.
Your Samsung refrigerator fan motor is not running
The fan motor in your fridge plays a crucial role in the refrigerator’s cooling system. If the fan is obstructed or does not run optimally, it could lead to your refrigerator not cooling food properly in its interior or it can cause the refrigerator to run continuously without stopping. In both of these cases, you’re going to be dealing with costs issues because food that goes off must be thrown away and a constantly running fridge will eat into your energy bills. Therefore, it’s wise to ensure that you check this issue yourself.
To attempt to fix this issue, you may first want to check that the thermostat is working properly. You will want to place a thermometer in a glass of cold water, let it sit on the middle shelf of your fridge for eight hours, and then readjust the temperature from the inside of the fridge so that the temperature is between 2.2 and 4.4 degrees Celsius.
If it’s not an issue with the temperature and cooling of the fridge, you may need to clean the motor fan. However, make sure that before you do this, the fridge is completely switched off and disconnected from a power source. Check for any obstructions on the fan such as pet hair, debris, dust (especially if you live in a dry environment) and then either vacuum it carefully or ensure you use a brush or a dry cloth to wipe it clean. If this doesn’t resolve the issue, it may be time to call in an expert.
Your Samsung fridge temperature display is wrong
If you suspect that the temperature inside your fridge and the temperature on the display screen are inconsistent with each other, this is likely caused by the fridge being plugged in for the very first time, the fridge being unplugged or the power has gone out.
Some ways to troubleshoot this issue are to reset the temperature manually. Use your owner’s manual to help you reset the temperature and follow the instructions in a step-by-step manner. This will involve pressing the Power Cool and Power Freeze modes until the unit returns to the desired temperature.
Your Samsung refrigerator coil is freezing up
In this situation, you will need to attempt to defrost the coils yourself. The easiest way to do this is to unplug your fridge from its power source and leave it to defrost for around 24 hours. You may also wish to speed up the process by ensuring that you use warm water over the coils while paying special and careful attention not to wet any of the area around the coils.
Your Samsung fridge is not making ice
If your Samsung fridge is not making ice, this could be due to a number of factors. Firstly, the temperature setting may be incorrect and this will need to be reset. Secondly, the water filter or supply pipes might be clogged and will require cleaning. Before you do this, however, it’s highly recommended that you first unplug your fridge from its main power source and that you then disconnect the water supply. You may wish to remove the water filter to see for any obstructions or blockages and then clean it before proceeding to switch your fridge back on again.
