Siemens error codes for your washing machine don’t always follow a simple numerological sequence and can sometimes appear quite unusual. However, with a little understanding of how they work, you’ll be able to see what they mean and where the problem may lie, even if you can’t fix it yourself.
Siemens washing machine error codes
Siemens washing machine fault codes can be divided into category errors:
Communication error
Error 10 or F10
This error indicates that your washing machine has found a problem with the internal communication in your appliance. Typically this will be a wiring or electrical problem between the motor and the module.
Door lock errors
Error 06, 16, and 34
These error codes relate to the door not closing properly and could be due to a faulty door latch or catch. An electrical door lock may be a more complex issue with wiring or power supply issues.
Drainage errors
Error 03 and 18/ F03 and F18
Siemens washing machine error code F18 and error code F03 means that your washing machine can’t drain properly which is often caused by an obstruction in the filter, drain hose or drain pump. The drain pump itself may be faulty and need replacing.
Heater errors
Error 02 and 09
Error code 02 signifies that there’s an issue with your washing machine’s heater, and error 09 indicates that unexpected heating has been detected. These issues could be caused by defective heating elements turning on when they shouldn’t, for example during the rinse cycle.
Motor errors
Error 04, 05, 21, 42, 43, and 44
All the above numbers indicate a motor error that can be caused by a number of reasons including damage or corrosion to wiring, or excessive wear. Other components that will need to be checked are the carbon brushes for signs of wearing down, and the tacho connections and panel control board modules.
Sensor errors
Error 06 and 07
This means that there’s an issue with the NTC sensor in your washing machine which may be due to a defective sensor or faulty wiring.
How to reset error codes
In certain cases, you may be able to reset your washing machine to cancel any error codes that are displayed. Take the following steps:
- Turn the dial to the off/reset position
- Then turn the dial to the halfway point which would be the 6 o’clock position on a clock face
- Press and hold the spin button whist moving the dial to the 7 o’clock position
- Continue to hold the spin button for at least five more seconds
- Move the dial back to the off/reset position
- Turn the washing machine back on and the error code should have gone
